The origin:

The concept for our sunglasses brand, Ceremony, was born out of a thoughtful conversation with my partner, Jaume, as we were heading to Uluwatu, Bali. During our trip, I shared with him a video I had recorded, where I interviewed beachgoers about their views on the importance of wearing sunglasses. What struck us both was the realization that, despite Bali being known for its beaches and sunny climate, there wasn’t a signature Balinese souvenir in the form of something as practical and stylish as sunglasses. From that moment, the idea took shape to create a product that would not only serve as a functional accessory but also encapsulate the essence of Bali, making it a memorable keepsake.

We decided to name the brand Ceremony, inspired by the deeply ingrained traditions of Bali, where ceremonies are an integral part of daily life and culture. These rituals carry a sense of reverence, beauty, and unity that we wanted to mirror in our designs. Our goal was to merge this traditional spirit with modern eyewear, creating a product that would resonate with both locals and tourists.

The logo design was equally symbolic. We drew inspiration from the wuwungan, the distinctive roof ornaments seen on temples and homes throughout Bali. These symbols are a constant presence in Balinese architecture, yet they often go unnoticed by many. We wanted to bring attention to this subtle but iconic feature, transforming it into a recognizable emblem that would evoke memories of Bali each time someone wore our sunglasses. By incorporating this traditional element into our brand, we aimed to create a deeper connection between the wearer and the island.

We also took cues from established brands like Persol, whose strong logo and iconic design have made a lasting impact. However, we adapted this approach to reflect Bali’s unique cultural heritage. Our vision was to fuse modern, high-quality eyewear with traditional Balinese craftsmanship, creating something that speaks to the younger generation while preserving the island’s artistic legacy.

Ultimately, Ceremony represents more than just sunglasses it’s about honoring Bali’s rich cultural history while offering a stylish, functional product. Our mission is to reignite young people's appreciation for traditional Balinese art and culture, and to provide travelers with a meaningful reminder of their time on the island, through something they can see and use every day.
